Ghomeshi was tried on four charges of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by choking. His acquittal and the judge's decision, which focused on a lack of credibility on the part of three witnesses (who testified that they were assaulted by Ghomeshi), has spurned a massive debate in Canada on a number of intersecting issues ranging form sexual violence, to the legal system, to victims' rights.
