Strange Planes: "Darkness Here'

Punknews is excited to premiere a new video from UK rock/punk act Strange Planes. The song, "Darkness Here," comes off of the band's debut LP South of OK, which is due out October 31st on Bad Horror Recordings. Upbeat and melodic, the slightly poppy catchiness of the music and the quirkiness of the video belies the darker nature of the song itself.

Guitarist/vocalist Ellis Slater discusses the origins of the track, and why the video is a lot more light-hearted:

I was looking at this song as a kind of horror film. I looked at some pictures online of old trees and graveyards and just started writing with a google images page in front of me. I then added the cliché of losing a girl and hoped to come up with a ‘Halloween’ themed single. – ‘Black heart for lustre, I knew I shouldn’t of trust ya. You faded away into the memory’ I stole the first line of the chorus from Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’. Cheers Edgar. ‘Darkness Here and nothing more.'

Because of the Halloween vibe, we wanted to capture this in the video. We believe, generally, music videos are pretty stupid. Watching a band miming along note for note trying to look cool with a go-pro wasn't really on our agenda. If the music industry requires a video, make it silly and / or interesting, and try a coax out laugh and / or smile!

The new album is currently up for pre-order in both digital and physical formats (CD, vinyl, and bundles). Strange Planes also have a series of dates across the UK in November, include an intimate acoustic album release show to start it all off.
