After As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was arrested on May 8, 2013 the remaining members, Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso, Josh Gilbert and Jordan Mancino, started jamming with Shane Blay of Oh, Sleeper. The band intended to be a supergroup with a goal to record and release material which did not fit into As I Lay Dying trademark extreme metal sound. Wovenwar became a full–time project when Lambesis plead guilty on February 25, 2014 and faced a six–year prison term.

From 2013 to 2014 the band had been in the process of making a debut self–titled album with the producer Bill Stevenson. The mixing was done by Colin Richardson. The album is set to be released on July 31, 2014 through Metal Blade Records. On April 21, 2014 the debut single "All Rise" saw the light of day. On June 18, 2014, the band released a second single called "The Mason".

Wovenwar is set to be touring in the United States as a support band for Black Label Society from July 17, 2014 to August 4, 2014. The band is also set to be touring in Europe from September 27, 2014 to November 8, 2014 as a support for In Flames.
