Anti-Flag and Congressman Jim McDermott have announced plans for a press event on March 24th in Los Angeles, California.

Members of the band and Mr.McDermott plan to discuss the bill before the house calling for further study as well as encouraging more people to petition their congressperson to co-sponsor the bill. Some scientists have argued that Depleted Uranium causes kidney damage in large doses and has proven to cause reproductive, neurological, and immunological harm in mammals. Some attribute "Gulf War Syndrome" to toxicity in the weapon material. The bill simply seeks to study this and make a scientific determination of the effects of the weapon.

To date, the bill has gained 33 co-sponsors, but the bill has not been brought to a vote in the Republican-dominated House.

Anti-Flag contributed their song "Depleted Uranium is a War Crime" from their upcoming full length, For Blood and Empire which is due out soon from RCA to help raise awareness to an organization supporting the research.

Later this week, Punknews.org will feature an interview with the Congressman who spoke to us about the bill, and why he and Anti-Flag have worked so hard on this issue.
