by Sunday Edition

It's Sunday May 27th, 2007. I'm so clairvoyant I predict one of next weeks biggest stories will arrive around at around midnight tonight. You should all prove me wrong by ignoring it and not commenting on it at all. Just go to bed early. Get some sleep. You really need to rest more you look horrible.

The people must have something good to read on a Sunday

So first I break a lace and for the life of me can't find a long enough replacement, and now this. Advertising images peddling boots from U.K. based Dr. Martens was unveiled --- and it featured the photo-manipulated sales-angels of Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain. After a few days of negative feedback (including some from Joey Ramone's brother) the makers of the iconic rock-related boot apologized for the the "unauthorized" campaign, firing their ad agency in the process. Aside from that, we had a deluge of Green Day news, among them an appearance by the the band on a popular TV talent show performing John Lennon's "Working Class Hero." The band apparently won't be featured on the Simpsons Movie soundtrack, despite the fact that they're in it (that honor goes to Fall Out Boy, which I guess is sort of fitting), but they will contribute to the score. Oh, and just to get you all riled up Rolling Stone named American Idiot the best comeback album ever.

This week saw Vinnie confirme earlier reports that Less Than Jake had left Warner / Sire. The much loved "Goddamnit" album from the Alkaline Trio (cough) will be re-issued soon via Asian Man. Cartel launched their much debated, corporate sponsored bubble stunt. Against Me! kept in the press, with a tour diary from Tom Gabel and a video interview from Warren Oakes. Whole Wheat Bread talked their upcoming album while Good Riddance announced that their final show will be recorded for a live album. Finally, Utah joined the list of US states to have their own little moral panic over the big spooky "emo" movement that's corrupting the kids.

Our Video of the Week featured Richmond, VA's Landmines while our Editors' Picks featured music from Bracewar, Jewdriver and an animated Calvin & Hobbes clip, just because. We streamed new music this week from the Gaslight Anthem, their entire new album, in fact.

Suntans are for Winners Win a prize package from Amber Pacific
Earlier this week, Amber Pacific released their highly anticipated new album via Hopeless Records. The record is titled Truth In Sincerity and is due out May 22, 2007. To celebrate, the band would like to give away a full catalog and merch to one grand prize winner as well as three copies of their new CD+DVD to three runner ups.

Win a guitar from Chasing Victory
Need a new Peavey guitar? Well, it looks like the fellows in Chasing Victory happen to have an extra one and they want to give it to one of you. While they're probably pretty generous dudes, this particular bit of generosity comes as the band celebrates the release of their new record, Fiends. The album finds the band moving away from hardcore and metalcore and incorporating more melodic elements that have been compared to bands like the Foo Fighters. You can check out some music on their myspace page and you can visit this form to get your name in the running for the guitar.

The Used - "Lies of the Liars"
On May 22, 2007, The Used will be releasing their third full length. The record is titled Lies For The Liars and is their first since 2004's It is the follow-up to In Love And Death. Since quite a few of you are looking forward to this one, we decided to arrange a little prize package including a $25.00 merch gift certificate, the new record and their live record, Berth. All you need to do to enter is click Read More and fill out a little form. Couldn't be easier, unless we filled it in for you. We aren't going to do that though.

Elvis Costello reissues Elvis Costello, not only the king of America but also the king of reissues. The influential songwriter is again giving his catalogue a spit shine, reissuing deluxe versions of his classics via Universal. We've got four to give away to a lucky Punknews reader, including the new versions of 1979's Armed Forces, `80's Get Happy!!, 81's Almost Blue and the 2007 compilation Rock & Roll Music.

We've theorized that you visit other websites out there, and we know it can be tough to leave the calming blue glow of the `Org, so we'll help by infecting the rest of the web with Punknews content.
