Today Metallica took ownership of their master recordings from longtime label Warner Music Group, including all music and long form music videos. The band have subsequently launched their own label Blackened Recordings--named after the opening track from the band's 1988 LP …And Justice for All --which will serve as the new home for all the band's material. The label's offerings will be manufactured and distributed by Rhino in North America and Universal Music Group in the rest of the world.

The group's first release on their new label will be the Quebec Magnetic live DVD, due out December 10, 2012, featuring two concerts from the band recorded in Quebec City in the fall of 2009. Before leaving WMG, they released Death Magnetic in 2008 as well as Lulu, their polarizing collaboration with Lou Reed, in 2011.
