This week Vinyl File returns after a two week hiatus. I think I passed all my exams – sweet! Not only are we back, but we are back in a big way. This week we're going to be giving away a test pressing of In The Red's debut full–length, Volume I.

We also have a detailed discography of Toronto's Fucked Up, who have to be one of the most creative and impressive bands in modern hardcore. Vinyl Collective announces cooperative label - win a share!

Although Vinyl File was planing on taking a break over the next two weeks, we thought we would drop in briefly to announce another contest, this time in conjunction with the fine folks at Vinyl Collective.

Vinyl Collective announced yesterday that they will be creating a cooperative label in which up to 200 people will be able to buy a share. The plan is that each $60 share will go towards pressing two albums that have not yet been released on vinyl. Each album pressed will limited to 1,000 with shareholders getting the rarest color variation for free. The remaining albums will be sold through various distributors with all profits going back into the cooperative to press another record. All shareholders will be invited to participate in the selection of the album to be pressed.

Virgil Dickerson of Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective explains

Shareholders are promised at least 2 to 4 rare records, but if things go well, the revenue brought in for sales of the records will go to pressing new releases and in theory this initial investment of $60 could possibly bring in 50 records for each shareholder.

Shares for the label will go on sale on Friday through Vinyl Collective. However, Vinyl Collective and Vinyl File are pleased to offer one reader a share in the label for free. To be entered in the draw, email info (at) suburbanhomerecords (dot) com. Put "Vinyl Cooperative Label" in the subject box. One winner will be announced here on Friday morning before shares go on sale.

Since their inception in 1992, Less Than Jake has released some of the most interesting and fun records in punk rock. After all, can you name any bands that have released records shaped like birthday cake and moldy cheese or have released records in pizza boxes (I know, I know, Horse!) and pie tins? This is all in addition to flexi discs, a split with Megadeth and much, much more. It would take much too long to cover every vinyl release the band has put out. Instead, Vinyl File is thrilled to present the Less Than Jake highlight reel.

In related Less Than Jake news, Vinnie Fiorello of Gainesville, Florida's Less Than Jake was interviewed this past week for Central Connecticut State Univesitiy'sThe Recorder . He mentioned that the band is planning on hitting the studio in March for a release in June on the band's own record label. He also discusses his business decisions and says that the new album will see the band "going to go back true to form." Expect references to both Pez and Johnny Quest.
