The Offspring have posted an update on the progress of their upcoming full length follow up to Splinter. Frontman (and Nitro boss) Dexter Holland mentioned that the band continues to work on new material for the record, but have been recording off-and-on in their studio in Huntington Beach, California.

The entire band has been involved in the demo process and while the band continues to hash out ideas, plans are under way to begin proper recording sometime later this year. The band had been offered some European festivals, but will instead "stay home and work on songs for another record. "

In 2005, the band issued their greatest hits release and played a set full of older material on the Warped Tour. According to earlier reports, the band is promising that the new record will include both "fast melodic punk stuff [and] some tongue-in-cheek, humorous, more fun stuff,."

Drummer Atom Willard has been busy over the past few months working with former Blink-182 guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge and his Angels and Airwaves project.
