Patti Smith takes on “Gimme Shelter”

Punk pioneer and recent Rock Hall inductee Patti Smith has released a preview of her upcoming covers album Twelve. You can stream her version of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" over at Pitchfork Media.

The record is due in stores on April 24th and features covers of classic tunes originally by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane and others. The project features appearances by Television's Tom Verlaine and the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea among others.
