November 26th, 2006
by Sunday Edition

It's Sunday November 26th, 2006. Antarctica Uber Alles! A report from an `Org reader stationed in at the bottom of the world has become one of the highlights for us here. If we're providing the daily punk news fix to anyone living under the sea, on the space station, or in some sort of other worldly dimensional vortex from which even light cannot escape, we want to hear from you! The people must have something good to read on a Sunday

I don't know about you but news that the Minutemen's Mike Watt is collaborating with Kelly Clarkson seems a little bit weirder than Jay-Z appearing with Fall Out Boy, but to each their own. The dust clouds have barely settled from this year's jaunt but we already have confirmation that next year's Warped Tour will feature Bad Religion. Strung Out treated fans to some new material this week, putting the track "Downtown" online. Three upcoming releases had you talking this week, including the next from major label pop stars Simple Plan, the hugely influential Lifetime, and popular ska-punk act Big D and the Kids Table. The latter signed with SideOneDummy for their new album Strictly Rude.

Our daily interview streak continued this week as we chatted with Japan's Envy (interview, Stza and Ezra of Leftover Crack (interview), Neeraj Kane of Holy Roman Empire, Suicide File and the Hope Conspiracy (interview), and Jason Reece of …And You Will Know Us By The Trial Of The Dead (interview). To top it all off we were treated to video and audio of a presentation by Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, the Evens) at Loyala University (interview).

On the audio front we posted music from a number of new releases including Down To Nothing's All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, Planes Mistaken For Stars' Mercy, Avail frontman Tim Barry's solo debut Rivanna Junction, and Anthem Red's Dancing on the Dishwasher.

We said goodbye this week to San Francisco punk rock promoter Dirk Dirksen (1937-2006) and storied jazz pioneer Anita O'Day (1919-2006).

Suntans are for Winners Go Kart Records "Brats on the Beat: Ramones for Kids" / iPod Shuffle
To help kickoff the new Go Kart Records release Beat on the Brat: Ramones for Kids, the fine folks over at said label are offering you the chance to win a copy, and maybe even one of those new iPod shuffles; you know, with the little clip thing?… Brats on the Beat:Ramones for Kids features a punkrock all-star lineup including Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio), Jim Lindberg (Pennywise), Greg Attonito (Bouncing Souls) and many more sing classic Ramones songs in children's form (a great alternative to other creepy kids' music like this).
Raised Fist Vs. Quebec & Ontario
Let's try this again shall we? In September Sweden's Raised Fist were set to lay waste to Canada (well, Quebec and Ontario at least) in support of their 2006 full length Sound of the Republic. We even had a contest to get you fine folks in the doors… then the tour was cancelled. Vocalist Alle apparently injured his ribs by dressing up like a bat and fighting crime (or something like that). Well in honour of the band's rescheduled December tour dates we've resurrected our earlier ticket giveaway. We're giving away a pair of tickets for each date on the tour, so check below to enter. Note that if you entered already in the earlier version of this contest, you've got to enter again now. We're mean like that.
Lifetime 'Two Songs' 7" test press
Continuing in the recent tradition of giving away awesome limited vinyl here at the 'Org, Fueled by Ramen / Decaydence has teamed up with us to give one lucky winner a(n extremely limited) test press of Lifetime's forthcoming two-song 7" single, the appropriately titled Two Songs, as well as a shirt to sport along with it. You can enter and find all the rules and regulations at this handy contest page.
Casket Salesmen - New shoes, new CDs, new stuff
Our friends in Casket Salesmen recently released their debut full length which marked a stark departure from the post-hardcore of their former band, A Static Lullaby. Infused with touches of hardcore, metal and rock. The album, Sleeping Giants is drawing comparisons to everyone from Bleach-era Nirvana to Queens of the Stone Age and King Crimson. The band and their label offered to give away a pair of new shoes, a CD prize package and a whole lot of other merch. Check out the record and then get your name in the running.
Victory "Tuesday of Terror"
Recently Victory dropped five new releases on the world; the discs span every genre - from the theatrical Aiden to the bone-crushing hardcore of Scars of Tomorrow. The label has decided to commemorate the releases by offering five winners, one copy of each of the five releases which hit this Tuesday as well as a shirt and poster from each band. That's a lot of music and merch.
80GB iPod, Logitech accessories, albums from Sparta, Sugarcult, more Fanscape was all like "Yo Punknews, want to give some stuff out?" And I was like "Like what yo?" And they were all "An 80 gig iPod and the new albums from Sparta, Sugarcult, Plain White T's, the Summer Obsession and others." So I was like, "Aight." Sorry about that. In truth, one grand prize winner will indeed win all of the above, as well as an AudioStation and Z-10 interactive speakers from Logitech.
Isis "In the Absence of Truth" Isis recently released their new album, In the Absence of Truth. In order to celebrate it's awesomosity, Punknews.org, Ipecac and Insound have joined forces to give away a bunch of stuff including the album itself, a DVD, an InSound Gift Certificate and more.
