Each and every Punknews story is built from tips contributed by you fine folks, and here's what got the community talking this week… The People Must Have Something Good To Read On A Sunday This week's most popular stories The Rancid news keeps flowing. Lars Frederiksen and Tim Armstrong spoke out this week about the band's new album, their writing process, and the influence of producer Brett Gurewitz. Tim and Matt Freeman also discussed and debunked persistent rumours of an Operation Ivy reunion. The band will play the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien this week. Shook Ones expressed their support for the opponents of California's Proposition 8 with a new downloadable track to raise money for Lambda Legal, The ACLU of California, and Equality California. Successful alt-rock act Pearl Jam is teaming up with retailer Target for their next album. The band has wrapped up their lengthy contract with Sony Records, who released all the band's material since 1991's Ten. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has announced plans to launch a comic book series through Image Comics.
There are plenty of new records in the works soon. Thrice is aiming for a fall release of their new full length. Florida's Look Mexico have signed to Suburban Home Records. They'll again work with Phil Martin and August Hansen on their new record. Crime In Stereo have entered the studio with producer Mike Sapone to begin work on their as-yet untitled fourth full length. Tegan and Sara are hinting at an October release for their next. Only Crime is also writing new material. Riot Fest announced some headliners for the `09 edition of the Chicago festival, as well as plans for a Los Angeles version of the vent. The Chicago tour, set for October 7th through 12th will include Screeching Weasel, NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Murder City Devils, the Dead Milkmen and Cock Sparrer. The Gaslight Anthem is planning a fall headlining tour with Loved Ones, Murder By Death, and Frank Turner. The Voodoo Glow Skulls are also hitting the road. This week broght two new tracks from Echoes of Harpers Ferry. Anti-Flag streamed their new full length The People or the Gun. Narrows also posted their video for the song "Gypsy Kids." Propagandhi: "Dear Coach's Corner"
To celebrate the track "Dear Coach's Corner" from their new album Supporting Caste, the band decided to team up with us to offer you a fun and unique contest. The premise is simple: using one of three available photos as reference, design an image (using Photoshop, MS Paint, cut and paste collage, hand drawn picture etc) that depicts the members of the band with Don Cherry and/or Ron McLean from the popular Canadian television broadcast, Hockey Night in Canada. Three winners will be personally chosen by the band, with each receiving a copy of Supporting Caste on vinyl, and an autographed poster.
Shook Ones: European Quiz-O-Rama
Bellingham, WA's Shook Ones recently made a trip across the pond to Europe and compiled a collection of video footage which has been edited into a trivia contest. The first entry involves one of the biggest action movie stars. I'll give you a hint: he pulls his pants up high to not look so short. The band is preparing to release their new LP, The Unquotable A.M.H., via Paper+Plastick.
